The Woodland group is based in beautiful woodland at Killerton House, a National Trust property just east of Exeter. Parents and their children aged 2-5 meet throughout the year in a dedicated space, to explore the woods, play and enjoy wholesome food cooked over an open fire. The rhythm of the group activities follows the seasons and the children are free to discover the world around them in a safe and open environment.
“This half term the Woodland Group at Killerton Woods built their own bender to give them shelter in the rain and cold weather. Thank You to all of you who offered your help and support in any form. It was a very special day.
Thank you to Vicki for her clear instructions and to all the willing and talented families and friends who gave their time, hard work and care to create a strong, cosy bender for us all to use. It was such an enjoyable day with hard work and laughter – there was lots of cutting, carrying, chopping, shaping, hammering, bending, tying and weaving. All of us sharing the jobs of building, fire making, food preparation and childcare. We were a real dedicated community and worked so well together that everything flowed into creation. Thank you especially to those of you who turned up in the pouring rain the day before to chop down and transport the hazel poles that we needed to build with; the car we were using to transport them for a while looked more like a bush on wheels! Sitting inside the finished bender together, laughing, with the sun shining down upon us was all the more special.”
