Kindergarten

The kindergarten caters to children between the ages of 3 to 6, and is a gentle step for the young child between home and school. The teacher’s role is to support the children’s play and act as a role model rather than telling them what to do. Inappropriate behaviour is transformed through play.

Traditional fairy tales and nature stories are used to address the feeling life of the child and gradually awaken an understanding of right and wrong. A typical day will include:

  • circle time: songs, movement, poems, drama and finger games
  • creative play
  • tidying up
  • structured activity: painting, drawing, craft work, baking, wood work or cleaning
  • story telling
  • outdoor play

Our kindergarten day begins at 8.30 and ends at 2pm.  The children share their mid-morning snack, or “squirrel”, and a simple, wholesome lunch prepared with them during the morning.  On most Mondays, the entire kindergarten walks out to nearby Barley Valley Nature Reserve for a morning enjoying nature.
