Autumn Circle time

All our little toes and heels (to encourage standing straight and tall with feet together)

Quickly shut the door, don't let the wind in today! (Feet together)

Let me see are all the butterflies resting in the garden.

(Hands held on chests with thumbs linked and fingers make the butterflies wings)

The wind is cold and the butterflies must rest too.

Song with hand movements

Good morning dear earth and Good morning dear sun,

Good morning dear stones and the flowers everyone

Good morning dear beasties and the birds in the trees

Good morning to you and Good morning to me.

(We end by holding hands, you truly sense your own being through the sense of touch where you end and another begins)

Let's go walking in the woods on a windy autumn day,

You can hear the leaves a-rustling

Swish,swish,swish……..

Swish,swish,swish……..

Let's go skipping…….Let's go stamping ….Let's go tip toeing….

Song with movements

Rabbit twitched his twitchity ears on a twinkling autumn day,

He could hear the north wind whistle and he scampered off to say:

Hurry, hurry, hurry, hurry we must all get fat and furry,

Not a moment to be lost, I can hear bold Jacky Frost

Hedgehog sniffed with his sniffety nose on a snappy autumn day

He could smell the winter coming and he waddled off to say

Hurry, hurry, hurry, hurry we must all get fat and furry,

Not a moment to be lost, I can smell bold Jacky Frost

Squirrel shivered a shivery shiver on a shivery autumn day

He could feel the north winds fingers as he scurries off to say

Hurry, hurry, hurry, hurry we must all get fat and furry,

Not a moment to be lost, I can feel bold Jacky Frost

Badger blinked with his blinkety eyes on a blustery autumn day

He could see the storm clouds gather and he lumbered off to say:

Hurry, hurry, hurry, hurry we must all get fat and furry,

Not a moment to be lost, I can see bold Jacky Frost

Up in the tree look and see...

Whisky, frisky, hippety hop up he goes to the tree top,

Whirly, twirly round and round down he scampers to the ground

Furly, curly what a tail, tall as a feather, broad as a sail

Where's his supper in the shell snappity, crackity out it fell.

How fast Nutkin runs his friends can't catch him especially Mr Snail…

Poem (Circle led into a spiral moving inwards and back out)

Oh how slowly, oh how slowly,

Comes the snail along his track.

Seven days he takes to travel

Just a little way and back

Oh how slowly, oh how slowly

Through the grass he makes his trail

Gracious! I would run much faster

If I were a little snail

All around a gentle sound leaves are drifting to the ground….

( Sitting circle )

Song ( finger movements)

Five little leaves so bright and gay,

Were dancing about on a tree one day,

The wind came blowing through the town –Oooo

And one little leaf came floating down. (Etc)

Some one small welcomes leaves of gold and red, to make his cosy winter bed…

Poem (include crawling movements)

Hedgy hedgehog creeps along, snuffling through the grass,

Looking for a place to rest away from winter's blast

Leaves are falling light so light yellow red and brown

Hedge hog finds a place to rest leases his eiderdown

He curls up tight, all out of sight, inside his winter bed

Through rain and wind and frost and snow he won't poke out his head

He'll stay there safe the winter through, I can't see him

Can you?

Above his bed he can here tiny sounds very clear…

(Star children and Moon children stay tightly curled up with assistant whilst Sun children and teacher stand up and become gnomes...)

Footsteps are coming near and a song I hear…

Ho ho ho we gnomes walk in a row

And when we gnomes are going out

We make a ring and non do shout

Ho ho ho we gnomes walk in a row

They carry lanterns shining bright to light the darkness of the night…

(Sun children walk around and return to their places then others rise and join in.)

Now we'll join their happy song and with our lanterns lit will walk along…

(... Teacher leads children around the room and maybe one day out into corridor to visit another class!)

My lantern, my lantern, shining near and far

Shining like a moon, shining like a sun,

Shining like a silver star.

My lantern, my lantern.

Glimmer lantern glimmer,

Little stars a shimmer.

Over meadow moor and dale

Flitter flutter elfin veil.

Pee-wit, pee-wit, tick-a-tick-tick, roo-coo, roo-coo.

Glimmer lantern glimmer,

Little stars a shimmer.

Over rock and stack and stone,

Wander tripping little gnome

Pee-wit, pee-wit, tick-a-tick-tick, roo-coo, roo-coo.

The sunlight fast is dwindling,

My little lamp needs kindling,

Its beam shines far in darkest night,

Dear lantern, guard me with your light.

……………………………………….

Lanterne, Lanterne,

Sonne, Mond und Sterne,

Brenne auf mein Licht, brenne auf mein Licht,

aber nur meine liebe Lanterne nicht

I go with my bright little lantern

My lantern is going with me

In heaven the stars are shining

On earth shines my lantern for me

My light shines bright all through the night

La Bima, La Bima, La Bim,

My light grows dim as we go in

La Bima, La Bima, La Bim,

As the evening ends we'll go inside with our friends….

Closing verse

My feet are firm upon the earth ,

The sun shines high above,

Here I stand so strong and straight,

All things to know and love.

Through the seasons land we shall travel well,

with many a story to tell.

Walking hand in hand through each and every seasons land

Today is a special day and now you may go and play………..
